How to Start a Small Group Online
With the most recent recommendations coming out about the COVID-19 virus, all small groups should only be meeting online. While this is a very difficult decision to make, we are excited about the opportunity this presents to us as the church to be the church and provide hope to a region that is desperately seeking it. For the first time in a generation, the entire world is focused on the same thing. Romans 8:28 assures us that God will bring something good out of this!
With this in mind, we have been brainstorming ideas for how we can continue to do ministry not just on Sunday, but every single day of the week. Here are just a few ideas you could use for your small group:
1. Convert or start an online group!
During this time we still need community and we still need to focus on Christ. One way you can help to be the church is to start an online group with your friends or family. Think of ways you can meet while not in person such as meeting on Facebook, Zoom, or Google Hangouts (click the links for instructions for setting up each). One of our group hosts is doing a 12-day Bible reading plan on the YouVersion Bible App with their group-inviting them all to go through the study together. For more direction on hosting an online group check out this article: How To Host An Online Group or feel free to reply to this email with any questions about hosting an online group or if you are wanting to change your current group to an online group! Remember, you can access all the videos and even the study guides online here: betterlife.church/studies
2. Create Watch Parties on Facebook
You can invite your online group (or other friends/family ) to get together on Sunday morning to worship together online. Here's a quick reference for creating watch parties: How To Start A Facebook Watch Party
3. Organize outreach opportunities!
We know there will be many needs to arise in the coming weeks.
In Morehead you can drop off food to Gateway Helping Hands Food Bank at 204 Morehead Plaza, Morehead, KY.
In Grayson you can go to The Food Bank at First Church in Grayson (606) 474-5464 and please call ahead to make sure Ms. Vicki is there to accept donations. Or the Family Resource Centers in Grayson by calling (606) 474-6696 and follow prompts to pick your school, then dial extension given. For example, Heritage Elementary is extension 22000 and Olive Hill Elementary is 23040.
We know this can be a very trying time, but this is the perfect opportunity for us to spread the hope of Jesus Christ.
