How Do I Study My Bible?

Doing daily devotions shape the way we think and transform our minds. As we face similar situations as Jesus did, we begin to respond in the same way He did. Daily devotions don't have to be super complex. S.O.A.P. is a way to look deeper into what God is speaking to you, by giving an easy format to begin journaling through the Bible.

S.O.A.P. is an acronym for scripture, observation, application, and prayer. Grab a journal or notebook from the store, open your Bible and follow these 4 simple steps.

Scripture - Begin by reading a chapter of a book from the Bible (If you don't know where to begin, try starting with the Gospel of John). Write down the verse or verses that stick out to you in your reading.

Observation -What did you observe about the Scripture that struck you? Write down your thoughts. This can be one sentence or a whole book.

Application -Think through how you can apply your observation to your life. We want to be sure we're not just reading to read but we're intentional about letting it change us. Write this down as well.

Prayer -Write out a prayer to God based on what you just learned and ask Him to help you apply this truth in your life.
