Read: 1 John 4:10-11

A time while Jesus was teaching, there were so many people around in the house they were in that they ran out of room. You couldn’t even catch a peek through the door. There were some people that came with a paralytic man on a bed. When they saw that they couldn’t get him to Jesus they went up to the roof and made an opening. They were relentless about getting this man to Jesus. What ever it took, they were ready to do it. Then they lowered the man on the bed down through the roof. When Jesus saw their faith, he healed the man. The man rose, picked up his bed and went out before everyone. Everyone was amazed.

All it took was a bit of faith and a lot of love to get this man to where he needed to be. His friends had heard about Jesus and knew they had to find a way to get their friend to Him. No matter what that meant, no matter the costs, they planned to help their friend. This is love. I’m not sure if they thought about themselves once through this process. Not only did they have to carry their friend from home, but they came before a crowd with the truth that Jesus could do something. When they couldn’t reach Him they tore a hole in the roof and lowered their friend. They had everyones attention. Everyone was staring to see what Jesus would do to these people that interrupted Him.

Do we have friends that need that kind of love? It’s a stubborn kind of love. It knows what is best for the person and plans to do what ever it needs to get their friends where they need to be. It was sacrificial, selfless and pursued the situation. The man was otherwise helpless if it wasn’t for his loving friends. This is the kind of love that will change a person’s life.

Reflect:

  1. Has anyone ever sought to love you? If so, how did it make you feel?
  2. How do you think this kind of love can change a person?
